Myroslav Kulyk was raised in the Cappon district south of Oyen, Alberta, where he attended high school when he was not practicing his fiddle. He led a local band for dances at the Cappon school house and later farmed in the Helmsdale district West of there. He played for innumerable dances
in the area.Myroslav could hear tunes in his head and produce them on the fiddle. Hear it once on the radio; and he could play it. He asked neighbor-kids who owned fiddles if they had ever heard this one, and when they said "no" Myroslav commented "everybody says that - I musta composed it".
